We are committed to the belief that God's priority for his people is to love him and to love our neighbors as Christ has loved us. This is an old and a new challenge. With God's help we set our sights to be a place to help transform big kids (grown-ups) and our children into spiritual champions. With God's help we are setting out to teach people how to bring biblical faith into every part of their own life, their family's, and how to real life to work, and to the world. We think living in the goodness of God's grace is a good way to be. We want to be a church family where college students can find what they need relationally, intellectually and spiritually. So far, we are investing in people, not buildings, as we share a beautiful new sanctuary belonging to the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Fredericksburg. Some of us live with the responsibilities and distractions that come with living in the busy and pressurized world inside the Washington DC beltway. Maybe that is why Celebration works extra hard, and is so intentional, not to push God to the irrelevant sidelines outside the beltway of our lives and families.
Common Questions: Q. What are the goals of Celebration?
Our goals are to: - Live our daily lives in the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ and joyfully follow him
- Love the secular DC world as faithful followers of Jesus Christ
- Let God tune our hearts to be instruments of discernment in a culture of contrary voices
- Enjoy each day and build worthwhile relationships
- Equip each believer in our community to live and share the gospel with family, friends and neighbors
Q. Why do you describe yourselves as "evangelical," isn't that a word filled with political connotations, and high negatives?
We do not consider the word in any "political" sense. It does commonly have negative connotations. It is, however, a term we think is still useful, if understood. We simply use the term in its original sense as short-hand for a conviction to uphold the centrality and exclusivity of the gospel. We are convinced that Jesus Christ, who is God incarnate, is the only way of salvation and that the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God. We are well aware that this conviction is not politically correct. This term also implies some of Celebration's other characteristics, namely: - Concern for the whole gospel to the whole person
- Avoidance of extra-biblical lists of do's and don't's, and anti-intellectualism
- Desire to unite with other followers of Christ with whom we agree concerning the major Christian doctrines
Q. How is it that Celebration Anglican Church is international and mission-oriented?
We believe that Christ's church transcends geographical regions and cultural boundaries, and human history. To that end, Celebration Anglican Church actively seeks fellowship with all our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world. Q. What do you have for my children at Celebration Church during worship services?
Our worship times are all family-friendly. We have professional childcare and a safe place called God's Tots for infants to four year olds which provides age appropriate activities and lessons during our 10 AM worship service.
Q. Are you members of a denomination?
Yes, Celebration Church is a member of CANA (Convocation of Anglicans in North America) and the recently formed Anglican District of Virginia. CANA is also a founding member of the Anglican Church in North America, an Anglican province that includes about 700 congregations. At Celebration, we are members of the Anglican Communion, an historic worldwide body of believers who embrace common historic Anglican beliefs and practices.
Q. When I attend, may I participate in the sacrament of the holy communion?
If you are a baptized believer in Jesus Christ, we encourage you to do so! Q. How long do worship services last? We try to guard people's precious and holy time on Sunday morning and do all we can to make it completely satisfying while you are here. Plan on a service that will last an hour and thirty minutes.
